Calne Rugby finished 2016 undefeated at home with a thumping 67-10 win against Chippenham 3XV.
During the opening exchanges the visitors were awarded a penalty for offside and took an early lead. From the restart Calne attacked Chippenham’s defensive line and Brian Hopkins great vision set up Rhys Taylor for Calne’s first try of the afternoon.
It looked as if the match would be a see-saw affair as Chippenham scored the next try as they crashed over to score a converted try to make it 5-8..
Prop Pete Brownlie, hooker Dave Evans and captain Tom Morten were dominant in the scrums and the ever young Keith Bradley was his usual reliable self at the lineout.
Player coach Alan Wicks had a solid game and won a lot of ball at the breakdown and scrum half Dan Treacy unleashed Adam Young, Taylor and Liam Kearney who all broke through tackles as Calne ran riot.
Further scores from Calne’s ever reliable fullback Mark Webber, Rhys Taylor (2), Dan Treacy (1), Jamie Palmer (1), Keith Bradley (1) and Adam Young secured an impressive win for the home side.
In the second half Cameron Evans (Son of hooker Dave Evans) made his debut for Calne and with a further seven players waiting to join the action Dan Oakford, Nick Doe-Wansey and prop Tom Storm were introduced.
But it was returning winger Jay Watkin who would outpace a tired Chippenham defence to score three times much to the delight of the home crowd.
